The Land Around Your Farmhouse — Designed, Not Leftover

Garden design, outdoor living spaces, planting plans, irrigation, driveway routing, and boundary treatment — coordinated with architecture and construction from the design stage. Serving Bhopal, Sehore, Raisen, Indore, and all 52 districts of Madhya Pradesh.

When landscaping is planned alongside architecture, the verandah opens to the best garden view, the kitchen connects to the herb garden, and drainage works as one system. When it is added after — none of this is possible without compromise.

Farmhouse Landscaping — FAQs

Farmhouse landscaping covers the complete design and execution of all outdoor elements around your farmhouse. This includes site layout and master planning organizing the land into defined outdoor zones, garden and planting design with climate-appropriate species selected for your specific soil type, water availability, sun exposure, and maintenance preference, outdoor living spaces designed as outdoor rooms with defined boundaries and surfaces including seating areas, dining terraces, fire pit zones, outdoor kitchen locations, and pool deck integration, driveway and pathway design covering vehicle access routing from the entry gate and pedestrian pathways connecting all areas, boundary treatment including walls, fences, hedges, or combinations for privacy and security, irrigation and water management from manual hose-point systems to fully automated drip or sprinkler systems, and drainage management to handle MP's monsoon rainfall. For farmhouses with pools or water features, these are integrated into the landscape plan. Landscaping is scoped and costed separately from the structural build so it can be planned according to your priorities and phased over time. See the services section for a visual breakdown.

Landscaping costs are calculated per square foot of landscaped area (not built-up area) and vary by scope. Basic landscaping at ₹80-150 per sq ft includes lawn area, 5-10 trees, shrub border, basic pathways, and manual irrigation. Standard landscaping at ₹150-250 per sq ft adds designed lawn with planting beds, 10-20 trees, layered planting, paver pathways, drip irrigation, and paved seating. Premium landscaping at ₹250-400+ per sq ft includes full master plan, 20+ specimen trees, multi-layered design, natural stone pathways, automated irrigation, outdoor structures, and water features. A typical 5,000 sq ft landscaped area at standard specification costs approximately ₹7.5-12.5 lakh. Pool cost is separate at ₹8-50 lakh depending on type. See the cost benchmarks section for detailed tier-wise breakdowns.

Yes — and this is strongly recommended. Planning landscaping alongside architecture allows critical coordination: building orientation optimized for garden views, verandah and deck positioning coordinated with outdoor living areas, door positions connecting naturally to herb gardens and entertainment zones, drainage designed holistically as one integrated system, and electrical conduits laid during construction for future outdoor lighting and features. When landscaping is planned after construction, you inherit constraints that cannot be changed without breaking finished surfaces. Because our architecture, construction, and landscaping teams sit within the same company, this coordination is direct and continuous. See our architecture service for how design and landscape work together.

We recommend a layered planting approach proven in central Indian conditions. Canopy: Neem, Peepal, Mango, Jamun, Banyan, Arjuna — shade and microclimate cooling. Flowering: Gulmohar, Amaltas, Champa, Jacaranda, Kachnar, Palash — seasonal colour. Fruit: Lemon, Guava, Pomegranate, Custard Apple, Papaya, Banana — kitchen garden. Shrubs: Hibiscus, Bougainvillea, Ixora, Tecoma, Lantana, Duranta — boundary and colour. Ground covers: Doob grass, Wedelia, Arachis, Alternanthera — soil coverage. Climbers: Bougainvillea, Madhumalti, Jasmine, Money Plant, Allamanda — vertical greening. The specific plant list is customized to your site conditions. See the plant selection guide with 6 layers and 35+ species.

Hardscape covers all non-planted structural elements. Driveway: concrete (₹65-90/sq ft), pavers (₹90-130/sq ft), Kota stone (₹120-180/sq ft), natural sandstone for rustic look. Pathways: matching or complementary materials at 4-6 ft width. Boundary walls: brick or stone masonry at 5-6 ft height with RCC plinth beam and coping, ₹800-1,200 per running foot. Entry gates designed as part of the arrival sequence. Outdoor structures: pergolas (₹300-600/sq ft), gazebos (₹800-1,500/sq ft), outdoor kitchens (₹2-5 lakh), fire pits (₹50,000-1.5 lakh). See the hardscape materials table for all options with costs.

Three approaches: Manual hose-point (lowest setup, highest effort — for small gardens or hands-on owners). Drip irrigation (most water-efficient, reduces consumption by 40-60%, can be automated — recommended for most farmhouses). Fully automated sprinkler system (highest convenience with pop-up sprinklers and drip zones, programmable with rain sensor — ideal for weekend farmhouses). Rainwater harvesting integration routes roof runoff to recharge pits or storage tanks — a 2,000 sq ft roof can collect 1.5-2 lakh litres annually. Water sources: borewell (6-8 inch, 150-300 ft), municipal where available, tanker backup.

6 stages: Site Assessment (soil, vegetation, water, sun, wind), Landscape Concept (zones, layout, circulation plan for your feedback), Planting and Materials Plan (species, hardscape, irrigation specifications), Design Finalization (refined master plan), Execution in correct sequence (earthwork and grading first, then hardscape, then irrigation, then planting last to avoid construction damage), and Handover with Care Guide (joint walkthrough plus printed maintenance manual with watering schedules, pruning guidance, and first-year care recommendations). See the process section for details.

When landscaping is planned after construction, you inherit constraints: the verandah may face away from the best garden view (cannot be fixed), the kitchen door may open to a utility area instead of the herb garden, building drainage may discharge where you want a lawn, and electrical conduits for outdoor features were not laid. Planning together avoids all of this. Because our architecture, construction, and landscaping teams are in the same company, coordination is direct — not through the client as intermediary. The result is a farmhouse where indoor and outdoor feel like one design.

Yes — landscaping can be scoped for any existing farmhouse regardless of who built it. The process starts with a site visit to document existing conditions. We design within the existing constraints. If minor building modifications would improve the landscape connection, these can be included as a combined renovation and landscaping scope through our renovation service. The design process follows the same 6-stage methodology — only the building position is fixed rather than being designed concurrently.

Pergolas (₹300-600/sq ft) for dappled shade over seating with climbing plants. Gazebos (₹800-1,500/sq ft) for fully covered outdoor dining or lounging. Outdoor kitchens (₹2-5 lakh) with built-in grill, sink, and storage. Fire pits (₹50,000-1.5 lakh) with built-in seating — wood-burning or gas. Shade structures (₹200-400/sq ft) — tensile fabric or thatched. Water features (₹50,000-5 lakh+) from fountain walls to natural swimming ponds. Pool decks (₹200-500/sq ft) with loungers and outdoor shower. All structures complement the farmhouse architecture and are built by our construction team. See the hardscape table for detailed costs.

Maintenance includes lawn mowing every 10-15 days in growing season, hedge and shrub trimming 2-3 times per year, tree pruning annually, irrigation system checks monthly, weeding monthly during monsoon, leaf clearance in autumn, and seasonal annual flower planting twice per year if desired. Annual costs: ₹30,000-80,000 (basic), ₹50,000-1,20,000 (standard), ₹80,000-2,00,000+ (premium). Pool adds ₹30,000-60,000 annually. We prioritize low-maintenance native species and durable hardscape materials. At handover, you receive a detailed care guide with watering schedules, pruning guidance, and a maintenance calendar for the first year when plants are establishing.
