Temple Construction

Who will build the temple, from foundation to Shikhara.

MANDIR by AMR BuildTech builds temples in stone masonry, RCC frame or hybrid construction, with in-house shilpakars for stone work and structural engineering from AMR BuildTech.

Who Builds the Temple?

Temple construction is the build phase that follows design: turning drawings into the physical temple. MANDIR by AMR BuildTech carries this out with its own team from Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh: foundation and structural work, Garbhagriha and Mandapa construction, Shikhara or Vimana construction, stone fixing and carving by in-house shilpakars, MEP installation and finishing, managed to a written schedule through to handover. Construction is done in stone masonry, an RCC frame with stone cladding, or a hybrid of the two, depending on the temple's size and design.

  • Temple flooring and finishing work

    Finishing & Flooring

Plastering, stone or marble flooring, polishing and painting, brought to a standard fit for daily worship and festival use.

  • Electrical and plumbing installation on a temple site

    Electrical, Plumbing & Fire Safety

Wiring, lighting, water supply, drainage and fire safety systems, installed to code and routed to stay out of sight in a sacred space.

  • Temple campus boundary wall and site infrastructure

    Site Infrastructure

Boundary wall, gate, parking, landscape and utilities for the temple campus.

Construction Methods We Use

The method is chosen at design stage to suit the temple's size, style and budget.

  • Stone Masonry Construction

Load-bearing stone walls and structure, built and carved in traditional fashion. Suited to smaller and mid-sized temples where the traditional method itself is valued, with longer build time and higher stone-work skill required.

  • RCC Frame with Stone Cladding

An RCC structural frame carries the loads, with stone or marble cladding and carving applied over it. Suited to larger temples and taller Shikharas, giving faster construction and predictable structural performance while keeping the traditional appearance.

  • Hybrid Construction

RCC for the frame and services, stone masonry for the sanctum walls or specific elements. Chosen when part of the temple calls for traditional masonry and part calls for the speed and spans of RCC.

Our Temple Construction Process

From handover of drawings to handover for consecration, in ten steps.

  1. Handover from design

Approved drawings, specifications and the structural design are handed to the site team.

  2. Site mobilisation

Site office, material storage, water and power connections and safety measures are set up.

  3. Foundation & plinth

Excavation, footings and plinth are cast and cured before any wall or column work begins.

  4. Structural frame

Columns, beams and walls are built in RCC or load-bearing masonry as designed.

  5. Garbhagriha & Mandapa shell

Sanctum and hall walls, floor slabs and roof are completed.

  6. Shikhara / Vimana construction

The tower is built in stages, course by course, checked for level and alignment at each stage.

  7. Stone fixing & carving

Cladding stone is fixed and shilpakars carve jalis, brackets, niches and ornament in place or off-site.

  8. MEP installation

Electrical, plumbing, lighting and fire safety systems are installed and tested.

  9. Flooring & finishing

Flooring, plastering, polishing and painting bring the temple to completion.

  10. Quality check & handover

A final inspection is done against the drawings and specifications before handover for consecration.

Key Construction Considerations

What we plan for on site so the build stays safe, on schedule and true to the design.

  • Structure & safety

    • Foundation design suited to soil conditions
    • Structural design for the Shikhara or Vimana load
    • Seismic design under IS 1893
    • Quality control on concrete, steel and stone
  • Craft & material

    • Sourcing of the specified stone and marble
    • Coordination of shilpakar carving with the construction schedule
    • Curing time for concrete and stone-fixing mortar
  • Site & schedule

    • Monsoon and seasonal planning for stone and concrete work
    • Site safety for masons, carvers and RCC crews
    • Sequencing so carving is not disturbed by later trades
  • Handover

    • MEP testing before finishing is closed up
    • Final inspection against drawings and specification
    • Readiness for consecration on handover

Traditional Craftsmanship and Modern Site Management

A temple should be built to its tradition and also to the standards of a modern construction site. We manage both from the same team.

Traditional craftsmanship

  • Stone masonry and carving traditions of the chosen style
  • Correct construction sequence for the Garbhagriha and Shikhara
  • Shilpakar craftsmanship for ornament and idol niches
  • Materials and finishes proper to the tradition

Modern site management

  • RCC design under IS 456 where an RCC frame is used
  • Seismic design under IS 1893
  • Quality control on concrete, steel and stone work
  • Project scheduling, site safety and progress reporting

Because MANDIR is the temple vertical of AMR BuildTech, structural engineering and site management sit in the same team as the shilpakars who carve the stone.

Construction Materials and Their Use

Materials used in temple construction
MaterialTypical useWhy it is chosen
SandstoneLoad-bearing masonry, cladding, carvingTraditional to Nagara and Rajasthani-style construction, carves well.

Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about temple construction.

Who will build the temple?

MANDIR by AMR BuildTech builds the temple, from foundation to Shikhara. Construction is carried out by our own team: masons, RCC crews, in-house shilpakars for stone work, and structural engineers from AMR BuildTech, coordinated by one project manager for the whole build.

Do you handle both design and construction?

Yes. Design is a separate service that produces the drawings and specifications, and this construction service builds from them. Many clients use both, but you can also bring us drawings from another architect for construction only.

Do you build in stone masonry or RCC?

Both, and hybrid construction. Stone masonry suits smaller and mid-sized temples where traditional construction itself matters. An RCC frame with stone cladding suits larger temples and taller Shikharas. The choice is made at design stage based on size, budget and timeline.

How long does temple construction take?

Timeline depends on size, construction method and the level of stone carving. A written schedule is provided as part of the estimate, with milestones for foundation, structure, Shikhara, stone work and finishing.

What is included in the construction scope?

Foundation and structure, the Garbhagriha and Mandapa superstructure, Shikhara or Vimana construction, stone work and carving, electrical, plumbing and fire safety, flooring and finishing, and project management through to handover.

Do you provide structural engineering as part of construction?

Yes. Structural design and site engineering are provided by the same team, so the Shikhara load, foundation and RCC frame are engineered and built by people working to the same drawings.

How is quality controlled on site?

Concrete, steel and stone work are checked against the specification at each stage, with a final inspection against the drawings before handover. Progress and quality are reported to the trust or committee through the build.

Can you also renovate an existing temple?

Yes, through our temple renovation and restoration service, which covers repair, restoration and transformation of existing mandirs.

Do you construct temples outside Bhopal?

Our base is Bhopal and most projects are across Madhya Pradesh; see our city-specific pages for Indore, Ujjain, Jabalpur, Gwalior and other districts. We also take on projects from trusts elsewhere in India.

How do I get a construction estimate?

Share your drawings, site details and requirements. If you do not yet have drawings, we can start with our temple architecture and design service first.
